Windsor Chairs

It always gives me such pleasure to find a craftsmen who are still continuing the traditions of their chosen craft, especially furniture.

During my recent trip to Camden, Maine I paid a visit to Windsor Chair makers who are well known for their traditional bench made furniture.  Their specialty being the timeless Windsor chair. I enjoyed touring the showroom, which feels more like being in someones home with entries, dining rooms and bedrooms. Each room showcasing the beautiful pieces they create.

An incredible 14 foot long Shaker bench. Would love it for a restaurant!

They even have their wood shop on site and welcome visitors to tour the facility so that you can see how the many pieces are created by the hands of incredibly skilled woodworkers.

Loved this Highboy in it's raw state before staining

Aside from the Windsor chairs, their catalog also includes an impressive array of Windsor and Shaker benches, stools, dining tables and chests. They also do a large amount of custom work so if you can dream it they can surely build it.

I am drawn to the beauty, simplicity and integrity of their pieces, which are all about form and incredible craftsmanship. I also found their prices to be surprisingly reasonable considering the quality.

So if you find yourself near Camden, be sure to stop by for a tour.
